Although Dr. Patrick Mbaya’s illness caused a lot distress and nearly took his life, the emotional symptoms of the depression he developed helped him understand and empathize with patients and how they feel when they become ill. In My Brain is Out of Control, Mbaya, fifty-five and at the peak of his career, shares a personal story of how he suffered from a brain infection in 2010 that caused loss of speech, right-sided weakness, and subsequent depression. He tells how he also dealt with the antibiotics complications of low white cell count and hepatitis. He narrates his experiences as a patient, the neurological and psychiatric complications he encountered, how he coped, and his journey to recovery. Presenting a personal perspective of Mbaya’s illness from the other side of the bed, My Brain is Out of Control, offers profound insight into battling a serious illness.

Dr. Patrick Mbaya is a medical doctor specializing in psychiatry. He is a consultant psychiatrist and honorary clinical lecturer in psychiatry at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. He has a special interest in mood and addiction disorders.

Interview with I.M. Free, author of I Don't Have Time

Title: I Don't Have Time
Author: I.M. Free
Publisher: iUniverse
Genre: Biography
Format: Ebook

When she was in her early thirties, the author realized something was guiding her. Suddenly, a whole new world opened up.

She had never considered herself an atheist, but she had always questioned the stories in the Bible as she thought it was impossible for anyone or anything to have so much power.

But through her own experiences, she learned something really does have that much power. She became one of the few people throughout time who began communicating directly with God.
Sometimes when the author awakens, she knows something she didn’t know before she fell asleep. She feels things she wasn’t aware of before. This is how God protects her and prepares her for life.

I Don’t Have Time is the story of how God found the author and how she realized that while some people live as though they won’t face consequences for their actions, they could not be more wrong. Even if they don’t pay the price in this lifetime, they will in the next.

THE INTERVIEW

Can you give us a go-for-the-gut answer as to why you wanted to be an author?
I really never wanted to be an author.  It was just something the Holy Spirit guided me to do.

Tell us (we won’t tell promise!) is it all it’s cracked up  to be? I mean what are the perks and what are the demands?
My story was painful to write and having to constantly deal with my past, which is something I would like to leave in the past, has been hard.

Which route did you take—traditional or self-published—and can you give us the nitty gritty low down on what’s that like?
I went self-publish.  While awaiting a call from a competitor, another publisher called me at the exact time I was supposed to receive the call.  That person never did call me. I knew God directed the person that did call me to do so. This person and I hit it off immediately and he asked if he could read my manuscript.  I sent it to him and he said, “You have to have this published.”

Tell us for real what you family feels about you spending so much time getting your book written, polished, edited, formatted, published, what have you?
My family is grown and no longer living with me.  I am a great-grandmother. My husband doesn’t care.

In writing your book, how did you deal with the phone ringing, your family needing dinner or your boss calling you saying you’re late?

I am retired.  I wrote when I felt the Holy Spirit was communicating with me and surprisingly, the phone never rang.

I.M. Free nearly gave up on life as a teen living with an alcoholic parent, but at just the right time, a voice saved her life. That voice led her to a close relationship with God,who she now thinks of as her friend and confidant. She wrote this book so that others will find Him.

Book Blast: Divine Choreography of Redemption by William E. Jefferson

Title: Divine Choreography of Redemption: Setting the Eternal Saga in Time
Author: William E. Jefferson
Publisher: Hybrid Global Publishing
Genre: Historical Fantasy

Divine Choreography of Redemption explores the story of redemption as divine drama advanced by acts and agents that transcend time and space. The novel is set beyond the Storied Sea on the ancient Isle of Estillyen, far from everywhere yet mystically near. There, a troupe of Message Makers from the seventeenth century mysteriously arrives to grapple with the theme in today's context.
At the heart of the novel, a battle brews between technology's driven existence--aided by modern devices and algorithms--and life centered in Scriptures ancient narrative. The story line begs the question: Does meaning truly abide in the saga of redemption's divine choreography, or in media's discarnate realm?

EXCERPT:

“Michael,” she began to explain.
He took her hand in his and slowly kissed the top of it. “No. Don't say anything.” Their gazes locked for a beat, then he wrapped his hand around her waist and flipped her back to where she had been, with her head on the pillow facing the ceiling.
Her heart pouted in disappointment. She knew her lady parts were— Her brain, though, slapped her some high-fives, reminding her she was stationed here to work during the worst fire in the history of California. There wasn’t room for distractions.
Shae kept her eyes on Michael as he got up and rummaged through a pack on his desk. With his back to her, he removed some clothes and tossed them on the desk.
Then he took hold of the bottom of his shirt and pulled it up over his waist, shoulders, and off.
She sat up. What did he just do? Her eyes popped out of her head.
Broad shoulders, perfectly tanned and smooth, led down to ripples and planes from his shoulder blades, narrowing to a tight waist and down... Michael's jeans were so low, she could see exactly where his butt started.
Two muscled arms reached in front, and he bent over far enough for his pants to drop another inch and her heart to stop. Then she heard a zipper.
“What are you doing?” she asked, jolting out of her trance.
Michael turned, looking like someone who stripped for a living. She used her eyes instead of her fingers to roam his chest, his abs, down over his tight stomach to the hair peeking up from the front his jeans...
“Up here,” he pointed to his eyes, nailing her with his devilish grin. Did he have to look so comfortable with every inch of his body, and act like he knew what to do with it?
Then he unfortunately ruined her view by hiking his jeans up a few inches. “I was just going to change into something to sleep in.” he sounded perfectly innocent. “I wasn’t expecting you to watch.”
“Oh.” Her cheeks burned. “Sorry,” she said, mortified, swiveling away to face the wall.  “I didn't know what you were doing,” she mumbled, probably sounding even more like a perv. Blood pulsed to her cheeks until it was a safe bet her face was the color of a tomato.
Shae flicked her glance from the San Francisco Giants plaque on the wall and back to Michael, who was now wearing basketball shorts and a white tee.
When she met his eyes, he busted out laughing.
“Shut up,” she fake frowned, trying to keep a straight face. “You should've asked me to turn around.”
“It didn't look like you wanted to...”

Interview with V.W. Raynes, author of Twisted Venom

Title: Twisted Venom
Author: V. W. Raynes
Publisher: AuthorHouse
Genre: Suspense/Thriller
Format: Ebook

When young internist Claudia Ranelli attends a medical conference in San Francisco, she has a sexual encounter so bizarre and frightful it nearly kills her. But that isn't the end of her terror. Claudia and her cousin Dru Salinas must discover the identity of the person terrorizing them both, a quest that leads from pit vipers to modern genetics. Claudia tells a gripping story with sensitivity, a humanly scientific perspective, eroticism and a wry sense of humor.

THE INTERVIEW

Question1- Could you please tell us a little about your book?
TWISTED VENOM is the story of a young oncologist (cancer physician) who attends a medical conference in San Francisco, meets a man named Chance and has a bizarre sexual experience that seems venomous and nearly kills her. When she gets home to Texas, she and her cousin Dru Salinas realize that someone is out to terrorize them both, and their quest for answers leads them from pit vipers to modern genetics.
Question2 – Who or what is the inspiration behind this book?
I refer quite a few patient samples for genetic testing and am fascinated by the huge breakthroughs that have been made in cancer diagnostics and therapeutics. I wanted to write something that might teach people a little about what's going using a fictional format that, although somewhat kinky, might be more interesting reading. The gene mutation that I incorporate into the story is real, and the research to find a compound with the ability to reverse the effects of this mutation is ongoing and important. It is somewhat difficult, however, to put into a format that a non-medical person can understand.
Question3- What cause are you most passionate about and why?
No single cause, but I like the idea of making people familiar with new medical or scientific findings in an entertaining format.
Question4- Do you have any rituals you follow when you finish a piece of work?
Not really. I do get more sleep.
Question5- Who has influenced you throughout your writing career?
It's a short career so far. I took a writing class, and the instructor kept me going; she's very patient.
Question6- What are some of your long term goals?
I hope to write more medical thrillers--but I'm not quitting my job.

V. W. Raynes is the pen name of a physician practiciing in Texas

Book Blast: The Failed Experiment by Mart Grams

Title: The Failed Experiment
Author: Mart Grams
Publisher: XLibrisUS
Genre: Social Science/Ethnic Studies
Format: Ebook

When the American government was founded, the Founders and Framers assumed a government “of the people, by the people, and for the people.” That government is dying. It is under the authority of not “we, the people” but rather a small elite that is trying to snuff out the great experiment of man ruling himself, the common man, the man that within the right system of government can attain his purpose to achieve happiness. Were the Framers wrong? Were the ideas of Alexander Hamilton right? Is man incapable of self-rule? Does he need to be taken care of, watched, manipulated? No! It is not a failed experiment! It is time to retake that government.
